A nursery for Dawson

Let me start out by saying that I am feeling so sentimental right now. (I know. I say  sentimental a LOT! I just love this current stage of life with our kids!) It’s hard to believe that this is the last nursery I will get to dream up and decorate. There are definitely many kids rooms in the future still but there’s just something extra special about a nursery.
It’s been such a sweet experience, planning another space for a little boy! Months before our Dawson was born, I knew my affection for all things light grey would definitely influence his room’s colour scheme. Soft white and several shades of light to medium blues came into play as I searched for and acquired his change table, chair, pouf and wall decals. Where have you seen this colour scheme before? Maybe in our living room?;)

I honestly think it would be difficult for me to be given an endless budget to go and buy everything brand new for an interior design project. One of my favourite things is to see an accumulation of “old” and new items in a room. The most special item in the nursery is definitely the crib which we purchased 8 years ago. I love that it has been used by each one of our 4 children. Somehow there is hardly a bite mark or scratch to be found on it!

I love that the DIY’s in this room were a joint effort between Collin and I. He painted the knobs and feet of the dresser that was previously in the kids room and he also painted the oval mirror grey (previously gold when it was Marcella’s room) to match! I made the mobile, a design from my closed online shop and painted the ceramic elephant at a local clay shop. I also made the letter D sign hanging over the crib, a quick and easy DIY that may or may not have taken place just hours before the photoshoot. I like to live on the edge clearly.

I had the idea to “pass down” a few decor items to Dawson from his older brother Colby so (with permission) the big stuffed bear, train and wooden mountains on the wall shelves plus my favourite book “Guess How Much I Love You” were added to give those little extra special touches that every room should have! I also wanted to have a feature wall space that included some of our favourite local products that we use regularly and I’m so happy with how it turned out. The peg board provides the perfect place to hang our wraps and swaddle blankets- a storage idea I wish I would have thought of years ago!

In addition to the cute watercolour dot wall decals above the crib and the blue chair that has already gotten so many compliments, my other favourite purchases for Dawson’s nursery is the change table that I found at a second hand baby store and the baby animal wall hangings! Aren’t they adorable? This simple space is so sweet and I’m happy to say that most diaper changes have been tear free so win win!

The name Dawson stems from the name David which means “beloved”. It goes without saying that he is a gift from above. Like with all of our babies, we have such confidence  that God has a special plan for his life! Dawson completes our family and has brought so much joy to us after a very long and emotional 2 years. To share this special room with you makes me so happy so thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading! xo
