Anticipating Spring

Spring seems to be the most anticipated season for so many people! For those of us that live on the west coast its that glorious time when the rainy (and recently snowy) season starts to ease up a little. It’s when we get to see more sun, longer days, blue sky and flowers in bloom. I dream of tulip season all winter long and look forward to the simple joy of filling vases with freshly cut flowers.

Though I’m a cozy sweater and boot socks kinda girl, I also look forward to filling up my closet with lighter pieces of clothing and tucking away the heavy ones. It’s always a shock to see how much more room is in my closet once that happens! I still find though every year that there are too many items I haven’t worn enough to justify keeping them so that’s where I find myself right now, pulling and purging.

Spring is a time when new growth happens and as with all seasons it brings many changes. After a challenging start to our year I am looking ahead with hope and a willing attitude to make the changes necessary to find more time for rest. Real rest. The kind that requires a commitment, effort and determination.

If you are aware of our story, you’ll know that my heart, mind and body have been through a lot over the past 3 years. I have dealt with ongoing adrenal fatigue as a result, something that limits me greatly in many ways and also makes it more difficult to handle stress. Though the beauty of Dawson, our youngest, arriving last September has been a dream come true and brought so much joy to our home I continue to work through grief and my bodies response to anxiety.

At some point I hope I’ll be able to share more but for now I’m working at taking more time to rest, to receive the care I need so that I can mother my precious babes to the best of my ability. They are gifts as is my husband. So as Spring arrives, I’m focusing on new growth. I’m embracing new challenges to help heal my heart and mind even when its hard. And above all else I’ll continue to rely on God and His great love to carry me through. There is no resting place like Him.
